Yogi Adityanath announces hike in sugarcane price

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Sunday ??The purchase price of sugarcane in Uttar Pradesh increased by 25 per cwt about five months before state assembly elections scheduled for early 2022.

Yogi Adityanath made the announcement of the price of sugar cane during a meeting of farmers (Kisan Sammelan) convened by the party farmers cell in Lucknow on the eve of Bharat Bandh convened by these farmers’ organizations which call for the withdrawal of the three new agricultural laws from the Center.

“We decided that the price of the variety of sugar cane for which ??325 per quintal was paid to farmers would be increased to ??350, ”Adityanath said to the applause of the farmers who, according to the leader of the farmers’ wing of the UP BJP, Kameshwar Singh, had come from all over the state.

“My government has also decided to increase the price of the regular sugar cane variety to ??340 (per quintal), ”said Adityanath.

Previously, farmers were paid ??315 per quintal for this variety of sugar cane.

“The government has also decided to increase the value of the least productive sugarcane variety by ??25 per quintal ”, he added.

The chief minister said the decisions would help sugarcane producers increase their incomes by 8 percent.

“Effectively, it will transform the lives of 45 lakh farmers,” the chief minister said.

He also said that 119 sugar factories will be operated and that they will be linked to ethanol. He attacked the previous governments of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for shutting down and selling sweets.

The BJP has already concluded farmers’ meetings in 298 locations in 95 constituencies with a significant presence of sugar cane producers.

“We selected the assembly segments that had a substantial presence of sugar cane producers. At these meetings, we interacted with nearly 60,000 farmers, ”said the head of the farmers’ wing of UP BJP.

He said nearly 20,000 farmers attended the farmers meeting. The Farmers’ Wing congratulated 71 farmers in each district center on September 17, the 71st birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

UP Leader BJP Swatantra Dev, National Farmers Wing Leader of Rajkumar Chachar Party, UP Party Leader and BJP National Vice Chairman Radha Mohan Singh, Agriculture Minister of the UP Surya Pratap Shahi were among the leaders present on the occasion.

The ruling BJP has sought to distinguish between “real farmers and those who are agitated for political reasons.”

“This is not an agitation of farmers, it is a political agitation,” said Deputy Chief State Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, referring to the agitation in course demanding the annulment of the three agricultural reform laws of the Center.

“We have so many accomplishments to tell. Up to 2.50 crore of UP farmers benefit from Kisan Samman Nidhi, Soil Health Cards, Crop Insurance, Kisan Credit Card and 50 percent discount on agricultural equipment. These are just some of the many accomplishments that we will be talking about, ”said the leader of the Farmers’ Wing.

During a major farmer outreach initiative in August, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that lawsuits against farmers for burning crop residues would be withdrawn and a decision would be made to repay the monetary penalties imposed. to these farmers. In addition, orders have been issued not to disconnect farmers’ electrical connections due to pending bills. However, the announcements did not impress Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait, who cited his list of demands, the main one being the withdrawal of agricultural laws.

“Scams have been carried out in the name of the MSP (minimum support price) and there are districts where the purchases have been made on behalf of bogus farmers. The BJP government had promised that farmers’ incomes would be doubled. Well, the government ideally should have declared MSP sugarcane to ??650 per quintal, paddy at ??3700 per quintal and wheat at ??4,100 per quintal, ”said Rakesh Tikait.
